“So When Are You Going to Start Looking Pregnant?”

My father asked me this when he dropped by the house this morning.

I wore a fitted t-shirt and very loose sweat pants, not really caring what I might look like to the delivery guy or family member. Looking down at my belly, I could only reply, “Well, I think I’m showing more!”

I guess to the average person I don’t look quite pregnant yet – certainly not when I wear a top loose enough to conceal any bulges. I didn’t post a progress picture last week because of this – I didn’t think the photo showed much difference from the week before. But my belly button has begun to poke out a bit, my stomach to protrude ever-so-slightly more than what was at first considered only a “beer belly.”

Some things have definitely been growing, though! To put it cutely, I read on another blog that pregnancy made you look “half Victoria’s Secret model, half college guy with a beer belly.” I’ve never been able to actually fit into my small B size bra, but I just might have to go up slightly in size if this continues!

But to truthfully answer my dad’s question, I honestly have no idea when I’m going to begin looking pregnant to the casual observer. I don’t know when my belly is going to bulge out in the way that other women’s seem to do after only 3 months or so. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…I’m not really complaining, either!

The doc said I didn’t have anything to fear with regards to birthing a 10 pound baby. I’m hoping this belly is just one more confirmation of that!

  1. It will come. Some people don’t start really showing till almost the third trimester. With my first I didn’t start showing a little till I was 6 months but with my second I started showing super early around 12 weeks and now pregnant with my third I showed around 9 weeks.

    1. That’s so good to know! People are honestly getting concerned for me, and I don’t really know what to tell them other than, “The doc says everything is perfect!” They don’t seem to believe this answer, though!
